On the way to Ancient Lissos




      Early April 3 years ago I received a call from Mr. George, who is a researcher and lover of the mysteries of ancient Greece. He loves ancient thought and sacred hellenic monuments. He announced to me that after some reliable information he got during his last visit to Sellia village, near Rethymnon - Crete, he had to go to the southwest Crete, to investigate a mysterious phenomenon. Many Sellia villagers watched a "satellite" at the southwest, moving over the mountains and the sea for several days, stopping at various points of the horizon and going away. And the strange thing is that while in the day it is displayed as a metallic object, during the night it seems bright. April’s Fool’s Day was passed 12 days ago, so I became interested to learn more. As assured by Mr. George, a satellite can neither be seen during the day with naked eye, nor shine at night. He even invited me to go along with his company to see myself what is this peculiar phenomenon. The journalistic acumen woke me up. So we started early in the morning, a three people company with a dog, named Phoebus.




We went by the national road from Heraklion to Chania and from the lovely idyllic capital of western Crete, drove downhill to the south coast, southwest of the White Mountains, to the places west of the Samarian Gorge to find the signs of a civilization which flourished in the area and was known as the ancient Elyros. According to the calculations of our friend Mr. George, the unidentified flying object should be somewhere there...
