the sighting

We sat at a tavern of the Sougia beach to have some fresh fish for dinner. Mr. George was busy with Idomeneus who complained that in the end he did not see any "satellite" and Mr. George replied that people do not need signs from heavens to be faithful to their ideals. I teased them that the "satellite" seen or not been seen, was not so important fact to talk about it so much. Me and George might have had simply seen a star explosion last night. We calmed down and called the owner of the tavern to bring us the bill. We had a three-hour-four-hour trip by car, so we would be at Heraklion around midnight. Mrs. Roula, the tavern manager brought us a dessert along with three “tsikoudias” or “raki” drink’s treat. Before we drunk them, we heard the voice of a waiter from the nearby tavern: UFO, UFO!

Something like a flame rolled upon our heads vertically into the sky. I saw a giant flame forming to a round object falling from the sky carried by the light wind. I thought it was a meteorite. But the declining stopped and the fiery flying object passed low height above our heads, following a straight line to the south at the direction of Gavdos Island. Its size appeared to be around one third of the moon. It flew very low, 500-1000 meters, George said. The roundish object passed over us with a comfort, giving the impression that it moves at idle. Of course it was absolutely silent. The color was bright orange with lots of red highlights around the flames surrounding it. The object passed as a flame that burst a yellow red gas in the deep blue darkness of the night that was falling. The aura of the object was followed by a gradient flare of orange and red. We ran the car to bring camcorders out. Mr. George was already taking photos of the object without losing his temper with a smile of satisfaction on his face. There were more than ten tourists at the taverns and they were watching at the object indifferently. Some others have quietly watched the object to fly away. They were about fifteen to twenty people in the taverns. Suddenly, the object took height, and made a series of elliptical jumps upwards, consisting of several kilometers each. In less than a minute it became small as my fingernail and it looked like a white light radiating from above, the same size as an ordinary star. After completely faded and disappeared from sight. From what I saw in the video that I had a chance to shoot after my surprise, I estimate that the appearance of the object held about from the eight and twenty-five at the evening of April 13, 2008, until eight and twenty-seven minutes and 48 seconds, according to the clock of the camera. The U.F.O. was flying around above us almost for half a minute and nearly had another half to turn up to speed and become a little star on the horizon and vanish.
